Skye Curtis, Evaluation and Inclusive Practice Consultant

Skye joined MEL in 2023, having worked in social research and evaluation for nearly a decade and has extensive expertise leading and delivering large scale, complex research and evaluation projects to inform service improvement and policy change.

Skye started her career working in policy research at Cancer Research UK. There she conducted research on health and wellbeing, and managed national and international policy research programmes.

She then moved on to focus on evaluation, gaining a distinction in Social Policy Research at LSE. She is a trained mixed methods researcher with experienced in the full range of research methodologies, including qualitative and quantitative approaches, and theory-based evaluation.

Skye has worked in and with charities, public sector organisations and research agencies, with a particular focus on evaluating interventions aimed at supporting disadvantaged and marginalised communities. This includes research on the cost of living crisis, the impact of Covid, and with people at risk of fuel poverty, discrimination, health inequalities, financial hardship and debt. In her previous role she led Citizens Advice’s evaluation team, overseeing their national evaluations across England and Wales, including evaluations of food bank support, debt advice, energy support and advice, and benefit advice.

Skye has a special interest and experience in equality, diversity and inclusion (EDI), including approaches to embedding EDI into research design and practice. She led the design and delivery of Citizens Advice’s approach to equity in research while working as their EDI in research lead and worked to embed EDI into their evaluation design and delivery approach.

At M.E.L Research Skye sits on the ethics board and is our Evaluation and Inclusive Practice Consultant, acting as a consultant to internal colleagues and external clients on a range of evaluation approaches.
