At MEL Research Ltd, our research team has extensive experience working across the technology sector, encompassing a wide range of services and industries. We have conducted a number of app market research and app user research projects and offer valuable insights into various aspects of technology usage – particularly among audiences that can be more difficult to reach or engage, or exploring sensitive or difficult topics.
Environmental Technology: We have conducted research in the field of environmental technology, with a specific focus on recycling apps and their impact on sustainable practices.
Ed-tech: Understanding the role of technology in education is paramount. Our team have conducted research to assess the effectiveness of educational technology tools and their impact on student learning outcomes, including understanding parental decision making around purchasing or subscribing to educational apps through to the propensity for higher education students to utilise an AI-app for decision making and student-life.
Social Impact of Technology: Our research extends to examining the social impact of technology, such as studying the usage of dating apps among LGBTQIA+ groups. By understanding how technology intersects with social dynamics, we provide valuable insights to our clients.
Technical Architecture Solutions: We possess expertise in exploring technical architecture solutions designed for front- and back-end delivery in a corporate setting. For instance, our research has involved the evaluation of MACH architecture and its effectiveness in supporting business operations.
M·E·L Research provided advice and consultancy on the quantitative questionnaire design and study design, as well as undertaking the fieldwork with potentially hard-to-reach audiences and providing cleaned data for use in an academic study. The survey aimed to collect data on the usage of dating apps during the COVID-19 pandemic, the experiences of using the apps, and the impact this usage had on loneliness and resilience, using specialist scales. The survey was delivered via an online methodology to ensure responses were anonymous and candid.
Given the nature of the study and its contribution to academic research, as well as the sensitive topics covered, such as sexuality, romantic relationships, HIV status, loneliness, and wellbeing, it was imperative for us to engage efficiently and responsively with the University team. This collaboration ensured that the survey itself and the fieldwork approach received approval from their Ethics Committee.
