Richard Newman, Research Executive

Richard joined the evaluation team at M·E·L Research in 2018 and has built a strong reputation as an empathetic and skilled researcher. With extensive experience across both quantitative and qualitative methods, he plays a pivotal role in delivering high-quality project support, including in-depth interviews, ripple effect mapping (REM) workshops, qualitative engagement activities, coding, data checking, charting and analysis.

Over the years, Richard has worked with people from all sections of society, supporting research on key social issues such as poverty, mental and physical health and wellbeing, mobility, infrastructure, climate and the environment. His work spans a wide range of sectors including housing, health, transport, culture and heritage, sport and physical activity, and environmental sustainability.

At M·E·L Research, Richard leads our fieldwork delivery – from designing engagement approaches and coordinating recruitment to undertaking interviews and overseeing data collection. His specialism lies in qualitative research, particularly with groups whose voices are often underrepresented. This includes extensive experience working with people with lived experience of mental health conditions, disabilities, homelessness and members of the LGBTQ+ community.
