Tenant Satisfaction Measures in Folkestone and Hythe

M·E·L Research was commissioned to carry out a STAR (Survey of Tenants and Residents) for Folkestone and Hythe District Council. The aim of the research was to record the baseline level of satisfaction among tenants and leaseholders, following the transfer of housing management from East Kent Housing to the Council. By engaging with customers early in their relationship with their new landlord, the research sought to gather clear messages on their expectations and priorities for improvement going forward.

Living in cold homes in winter is associated with poorer physical and mental health, particularly among older people and people living with disabilities or long-term health conditions. Considering this, minimum indoor temperature recommendations are widely seen as beneficial for population health and well-being.

Southend-on-Sea Borough Council organisation wide ‘Your Voice’ employee survey

Southend-on-Sea Borough Council commissioned M·E·L Research to deliver an organisation-wide employee survey during Autumn 2021. This research was designed to build upon the findings of the last ‘Your Voice’ survey that was run in 2019. The purpose of the 2021 survey was to help the Council understand how levels of engagement and wellbeing have been impacted by the challenges and revised working practices resulting from the pandemic. The survey also sought to provide updated measures of how well the Council’s strategic vison is understood by employees and the extent to which transformational activity in key areas of behaviour are being recognised.

Liverpool City Council All staff survey

The Council has a Strategic Improvement Plan in place to guide the transformation of the councils’ culture and the delivery of its services to residents. In Spring 2022, M·E·L was commissioned to lead the design and deployment of the first full staff survey completed within the organisation for a decade. This activity was run simultaneously with a survey of Liverpool Councilors and a survey of residents. These three strands of research were required to provide a cohesive summary of where ongoing barriers to high performance remain and where improvement efforts need to be focused.

Beddington Gateways: TfL Major Scheme

The London Borough of Sutton was successful in securing funding from Transport for London (TfL) to undertake a Major Scheme in the Beddington North area to improve key ‘gateways’ to the Beddington area and make significant improvements to the walking, cycling and public transport environment. The borough commissioned M·E·L Research to conduct on street surveys with users visiting key locations to: Measure road users’ satisfaction with the street on that day; Understand the factors that influence people’s decision to use a particular mode of transport when travelling throughout the area on that particular day.

Liverpool City Region Combined Authority ‘Park and Ride’ Research

Liverpool City Region is currently undertaking the development of a new Local Transport Plan (LTP) which will work to facilitate an inclusive economy, building on the work already done via A Transport Plan for Growth. Part of the new LTP will be the development of a revised Park and Ride Strategy, and this study will inform that element. In short, the LCR wanted to understand what impact rail park and ride schemes might have across a range of stations – whether they reduce longer car trips, in particular to Liverpool City Centre – or whether they simply reduce use of more sustainable/active travel modes to the nearest station.

Physical Activity and Behaviour Change in Slough

Slough Borough Council commissioned M·E·L Research to undertake an in-depth, community led research project that involved Slough residents in a local conversation on health and activity levels. Primarily, it focussed on what residents believed they can do to keep physically and mentally well and prevent poor health in themselves and their loved ones.

Supporting Active Travel and Covid Recovery in Hackney

Rebuilding a Greener Hackney is the UK’s biggest programme of low traffic neighbourhoods and school streets. Each scheme had its own public engagement period in which residents could share their experiences of the measures, plus their views on whether they should be retained long-term. M·E·L Research led on the analysis of the responses provided from open and closed feedback questions, plus associated email and letter correspondence for 22 schemes over an 18 month period.

NSPCC is the UK’s leading children’s charity. The NSPCC Professionals Brand Tracking survey and sampling were completely redesigned for 2021 by MEL Research. We developed a new approach to sampling, a new survey with new questions and conducted fieldwork in a new period.

Cardiff and Vale Public Health: Challenges to eating well and being active

Cardiff and Vale Local Public Health team are facilitating delivery of the Move More, Eat Well partnership plan which provides a regional response across Cardiff and the Vale of Glamorgan to encourage people to be more active and have a healthier diet. The aims of this research were to engage with and gather deep stories from the adult population across Cardiff and the Vale of Glamorgan to understand the challenges and enablers relating to eating well, maintaining a healthy weight and being physically active.

Audience Insight and Impact: Birmingham 2022 Cultural Festival

We were commissioned to undertake primary quantitative data collection for the entire Cultural Festival, undertaking approximately n=3000 interviews using a face-to-face methodology delivered solely by our in-house team. This includes some of the largest events and installations, such as the Opening Ceremony, the Healing Gardens of Bab, Waswasa and Mobilise at the Pride Festival as well as ensuring a range of smaller activations were included to ensure representative coverage. Interviews were conducted utilising a systematic sampling approach where possible (e.g. at large scale events) although on occasion we tried to undertake census sampling.

Taste Liverpool. Drink Bordeaux. Economic Impact Evaluation

We were commissioned by Culture Liverpool to undertake an evaluation of Taste Liverpool. Drink Bordeaux. Taste Liverpool. Drink Bordeaux is a new food and drink festival in collaboration with Liverpool’s hospitality sector, the Bordeaux Wine Council and the French Government. For four days in June, Liverpool came alive to celebrate its food and drink sector.

Special Educational Needs and/or Disabilities (SEND): Cumbria Parent & Children Research 2019-2020

In 2019, M·E·L Research were commisioned to undertake the research. The use of an independent research organisation was seen as an important part of the engagement process with those using SEND services. M·E·L Research designed questionnaires for parents/carers, and one for children and young people. Questionnaires were mailed to the parents/carers of all children in Cumbria that have an Education, Health and Care Plan (EHCP). The survey pack contained both questionnaires and instructions for completing an online version of questionnaire.
