Strengthening Our Insights Team with New Appointments and Promotion in Landmark 40th Anniversary Year
We are pleased to announce the appointment of two new Research Managers, Roisin Coleman and Michael Keating, alongside the promotion of Tamsin Maries from Research Manager to Senior Research Manager. The appointments mark an important moment for M·E·L Research as we celebrate our 40th anniversary year, reflecting a business that continues to go from strength to strength.
New Appointment:Michael Keating, Research Manager
The three appointments further enhance the depth and breadth of expertise within our Insights Team, supporting our growing portfolio of complex, socially impactful research across the public, private and third sectors.
Welcoming new expertise
Michael Keating joined M·E·L Research as a Research Manager in November 2025. An assured mixed-methods researcher and experienced project manager, Michael specialises in research that sensitively and effectively engages seldom-heard and hard-to-reach audiences. His experience spans work with the general public through to highly technical and senior stakeholders.
Michael has led research across a wide range of policy and regulatory topics, including financial vulnerability and fraud, digital exclusion, housing and local communities, stakeholder engagement, and environmental sustainability. His client experience includes organisations such as the Financial Conduct Authority, Citizens Advice, Consumer Scotland, the Information Commissioner’s Office, and the Voluntary Carbon Markets Integrity Initiative. Across all of his work, Michael is passionate about bringing audience voices to life and embedding them within insights that create meaningful real-world outcomes.
Roisin’s expertise includes audience insight and segmentation, evaluation frameworks, strategic planning, exhibition and cultural programme evaluation, membership research, and staff workshops and training. She has extensive experience delivering projects end-to-end, from proposal writing and tender responses through to analysis and presenting findings to senior stakeholders. Roisin is particularly passionate about increasing access to culture for traditionally underserved communities and supporting organisations to better understand the needs and values of their audiences.
Celebrating internal progression
Alongside these appointments, we are delighted to announce the well-deserved promotion of Tamsin Maries to Senior Research Manager. Tamsin joined the team in 2024 as a Research Manager with over 10 years’ experience in social and market research, and has since played a key role in delivering high-quality, impactful projects.
Her background spans large-scale mixed-method evaluations, consumer and segmentation studies, and technology research, underpinned by a strong academic foundation in Early Childhood Studies. Tamsin is particularly recognised for her strengths in questionnaire design, data analysis and translating research findings into clear, actionable insights.
“As we celebrate 40 years of M·E·L Research, it’s fantastic to be growing our team with people of this calibre. Michael and Roisin bring complementary expertise that strengthens our ability to deliver rigorous, inclusive and impactful research, while Tamsin’s promotion recognises the outstanding leadership and insight she brings to our work. These appointments reflect a business that is continuing to evolve, invest in its people and go from strength to strength.”
As M·E·L Research marks its 40th anniversary, these appointments underline the organisation’s ongoing commitment to excellence, innovation and delivering research that makes a real difference for clients and the communities they serve.

It was an absolute honour to attend the Women’s Health Conference in London this week, bringing together clinicians, policymakers, campaigners and others passionate about improving women’s health.
As a researcher specialising in women’s health social research, I was excited to have the opportunity to learn, be challenged and exchange ideas with people who share that passion. And I wasn’t disappointed.
There has (quite rightly) been a lot of discussion recently about the gender health gap. But some of the evidence shared…

Last week, I had the opportunity to speak at Collections Inside & Out, a symposium hosted at National Trust Chirk Castle & Garden, bringing together people working across gardens, horticulture, heritage, collections and interpretation.
I was, perhaps, a slight interloper among so many people with deep horticultural expertise but every presentation was incredibly interesting and I learned a lot – and broadly managed to follow the general flow of what was being said (still not 100% au fait with taxa…
We’re pleased to share that our Commercial Director, Elliot Simmonds, will be speaking at the Collections Inside & Out symposium at National Trust Chirk Castle & Garden on 24 September 2026. Bringing together professionals working across heritage collections, gardens and landscapes, the symposium will explore the relationship between indoor and outdoor heritage and the opportunities created by thinking about them as part of a connected visitor experience.

New UK-wide research from M·E·L Research’s SPARK report shows improving mental health indicators alongside continuing exposure to suicide, widespread lifetime suicidal thoughts and significant gaps in practical knowledge.
Suicide prevention depends on understanding not only how many people are affected, but also how confident the public feel about recognising risk, starting difficult conversations and finding appropriate support. The Spring 2026 SPARK report from M·E·L Research brings these issues together, providing a detailed picture of attitudes…
