M·E·L Research Appointed to Deliver Sport Wales Partner Support Insight Pilot
For the Welsh translation, see below the English article (Am y cyfieithiad Cymraeg, gweler isod yr erthygl Saesneg)
M·E·L Research has been appointed to deliver a Partner Support Insight Pilot for Sport Wales, exploring how partners experience Sport Wales’ support offer. The project will generate practical, partner-led insight while testing a proportionate, repeatable approach to gathering feedback that can inform future learning cycles.
The project will provide actionable insight into how Sport Wales’ partner support is experienced in practice, and to develop a light-touch, repeatable model that Sport Wales can use in future to understand what is working, where there is friction, and how impact can be strengthened across different partner types.
The Approach
M·E·L Research will deliver a focused programme of qualitative research, working closely with Sport Wales to ensure the findings are constructive, improvement-focused and grounded in real partner experiences.
This includes:
A collaborative kick-off and co-design phase to shape the research questions and discussion framework.
In-depth online interviews with a purposive mix of partners to enable open, candid discussion
Online focus groups bringing together different partner types to explore shared and divergent needs.
Ongoing analysis during fieldwork to identify emerging themes and sense-check direction.
Clear, practical reporting including a key findings report, executive summary and a reusable “playbook” to support future insight cycles.
Welsh-language participation will be supported throughout, with bilingual materials and Welsh-first sessions available where preferred.
Why does this project matter?
Sport Wales works with a wide and diverse range of partners, each with different needs, capacities and experiences. This project creates structured space for partners’ voices to be heard in a way that is safe, balanced and focused on learning rather than compliance.
The insights will help Sport Wales:
Identify where processes or language create unnecessary friction.
Strengthen clarity, consistency and collaboration across the system.
Embed a practical, proportionate approach to partner insight that can be repeated over time.
Ultimately, the project supports more effective partnerships, stronger relationships and better outcomes across the Welsh sport system.
“We’re really pleased to be working with Sport Wales on this important pilot. It’s a great opportunity to bring partners’ experiences to the centre of learning and improvement, and to help develop a practical approach that can be used again in future. Projects like this have the potential to make a real difference by strengthening relationships, improving clarity, and ensuring support is delivering the greatest possible impact.”

It was an absolute honour to attend the Women’s Health Conference in London this week, bringing together clinicians, policymakers, campaigners and others passionate about improving women’s health.
As a researcher specialising in women’s health social research, I was excited to have the opportunity to learn, be challenged and exchange ideas with people who share that passion. And I wasn’t disappointed.

Last week, I had the opportunity to speak at Collections Inside & Out, a symposium hosted at National Trust Chirk Castle & Garden, bringing together people working across gardens, horticulture, heritage, collections and interpretation.
I was, perhaps, a slight interloper among so many people with deep horticultural expertise but every presentation was incredibly interesting and I learned a lot – and broadly managed to follow the general flow of what was being said (still not 100% au fait with taxa…

New UK-wide research from M·E·L Research’s SPARK report shows improving mental health indicators alongside continuing exposure to suicide, widespread lifetime suicidal thoughts and significant gaps in practical knowledge.
Suicide prevention depends on understanding not only how many people are affected, but also how confident the public feel about recognising risk, starting difficult conversations and finding appropriate support. The Spring 2026 SPARK report from M·E·L Research brings these issues together, providing a detailed picture of attitudes…
