M·E·L Research Working With Royal British Legion to Evaluate Invictus Games 2025

M·E·L Research are delighted to announce we are working with the Royal British Legion (RBL) to evaluate the Invictus Games 2025 Programme, building on our experience within Armed Forces community market research.

The Invictus Games is an international multi-sport event for wounded, injured and sick servicemen and women, both serving and veterans. It uses the power of sport to inspire recovery and support rehabilitation. In 2025 the games are taking place in Whistler and Vancouver, Canada.

The Invictus Games acts as a crucial part of many veterans recovery journey and aims to positively focus on what they can achieve post injury, celebrating their fighting spirit, through an inclusive sporting competition that recognises the sacrifice they have made.

Since July 2024, our evaluation team have been hard at work exploring the experiences and impact of the RBL Invictus Games Programme on Team UK competitors, as well as those close to the competitor (family and friends).

Amongst more traditional methods such as feedback surveys and in-depth interviews, we have been using participatory and creative methods such as: Research Bingo, peer to peer research, Graffiti walls, walk and talks, picture storytelling and conversation trees.

Our team will be jetting off with RBL and Team UK to Canada to fully experience the Games, collecting valuable, in the moment feedback!

Stay tuned to our LinkedIn page to hear how our evaluation team are getting on!

Help for Heroes – Veterans and Family Survey: Help for Heroes commissioned M·E·L Research to undertake a large-scale piece of research to build a robust evidence base around the needs, experiences and wellbeing of UK Armed Forces veterans and their close family members, and to contextualise these findings against the wider UK population.

Help for Heroes – Segmentation: Help for Heroes commissioned M.E.L Research to develop a detailed segmentation of the UK charity-giving public, focusing specifically on individuals who support – or could be encouraged to support – military and veterans’ charities. The charity sought an evidence-based understanding of the motivations, behaviours and communication preferences of potential supporters, with a view to strengthening engagement, improving message resonance, and ensuring its offer aligns with what matters most to supporters and prospective supporters.

Royal British Legion – Battle Back Centre Recovery Services: M·E·L Research was comissioned to conduct research to support learning and service development within the specialist recovery provision of Royal British Legion.

Armed Forces Covenant Fund Trust – Supporting Partners Programme: The Armed Forces Covenant Fund Trust commissioned us to integrate realist and empowerment evaluation principles with trauma informed practice to support learning at programme and system level.

If you are designing, funding or delivering support for the Armed Forces community and want research that combines rigour with empathy, we would love to talk.
