“The non-visitor research conducted by M·E·L Research is an integral part of our ongoing efforts to enrich our offerings to audiences. By understanding the perceptions and expectations of those who have not yet visited our Midlands site, we can tailor our strategies to make the Museum more accessible and appealing to a wider range of individuals. We are excited about the possibilities that this research will bring.”

M·E·L Research Ltd bring significant expertise in conducting in-depth studies and delivering valuable insights within the culture sector. The RAF Museum Midlands, a prestigious institution dedicated to preserving the heritage and sharing the story of the Royal Air Force, aims to uncover the perceptions, attitudes, motivations and experiences of non-visitors to the site.

By exploring the factors influencing non-visitors’ decisions, their expectations, and barriers to engagement, the research will provide invaluable insights to support the Museum’s efforts in enhancing its public outreach and broadening its audience base. M·E·L Research will also provide training to the team at the RAF Museum in implementing findings and undertaking further evaluation.

Elliot Simmonds , Client Solutions Director at M·E·L Research Ltd, expressed his enthusiasm for the project:

“We are privileged to collaborate with the RAF Museum on this significant non-visitor research project. Understanding the perspectives of non-visitors is crucial for cultural institutions to expand their reach and maximise their impact. Through our comprehensive research approach, we aim to deliver actionable insights that will inform the Museum’s future initiatives and foster engagement with new audiences. We’re also very much looking forward to trying out some of the interactive exhibits ourselves, and seeing Bravo-November!”

M·E·L Research Ltd will employ a multifaceted research approach including integration of existing data as well as the generation of new primary research. These will then form the basis on a segmentation style output. The research will explore aspects such as awareness levels, relevance, perceptions, barriers to engagement, and suggestions for improvement. The findings will shape the Museum’s future initiatives, programming, and marketing efforts..

This research supports ongoing M·E·L Research’s work in the culture and heritage sector – including previous work for Art Fund and the Association of Independent Museums (report & webinar), Birmingham 2022, UNBOXED, and the Royal Shakespeare Company.
