M·E·L Research presented at the 1st International Social Prescribing Network Research Conference with Walsall Council

In June, we co-presented a poster with Walsall Public Health at the 1st International Social Prescribing Network Research Conference at the University of Salford. The poster showcases the Making Connections Walsall Programme, which takes a social prescribing approach to tackle loneliness and social isolation of older people living in Walsall.

The aim of the service is to improve wellbeing and reduce preventable health service and social care service usage. Referrals are processed by West Midlands Fire Service (WMFS) and allocated to one of four voluntary sector hubs via the NHS Data Collection and Recording System (DCRS).

The poster shares our early learning on using the Social Return on Investment (SROI) approach to support the evaluation of the Making Connection programme.

The conference was the first of its kind hosted by the Social Prescribing Network. Over 200 delegates attended the event – a mix of voluntary and community sector (VCS) organisations, local authorities, academics, and the NHS. Our poster was one of 30 selected to be presented at the conference.

A copy of our poster can be seen below. For more information about the programme and the evaluation, please click here.
