Celebrating success: Community Organiser Programme Awards Evening

Mid-way through a two year evaluation of four projects within the Ageing Better in Birmingham Tyburn Local Action Plan, we were pleased to be invited to celebrate some recent project success at the Community Organiser Programme Awards Evening!

At the start of 2018 M·E·L Research was commissioned to carry out an evaluation on behalf of BVSC – the lead organisation for Ageing Better in Birmingham, a six-year programme funded by the Big Lottery Fund.

One of the four projects we are evaluating is the Community Organisers Programme, delivered by Compass Support. The scheme aims to recruit and train 40 active Volunteer Community Organisers to work in local communities to encourage community integration, promote community cohesion, encourage active citizenship, and enable sustainability by helping people become more involved in community action.

On Sunday 27th January 2019, Compass Support held an awards evening at Walmley Social Club to celebrate the successes and achievements of the Community Organiser Programme one year into delivery.  Most of the current pool of 16 Volunteer Community Organisers attended, and all received certificates recognising their involvement and achievements to date. In addition to this, seven awards were given out to Volunteer Community Organisers, to recognise their specific contributions and achievements.

Alongside staff from Compass Support, Pioneer Housing Group and BVSC, we were proud to attend the event and to be associated with such pioneering Volunteer Community Organisers.
