The Impact of Climate Change on Family Planning

In a recent survey conducted by global research firm Morning Consult on behalf of computer tech company HP, it was revealed that over half of parents, specifically 53%, consider climate change when making decisions about having more children. The study surveyed more than 5,000 adult parents from India, Mexico, Singapore, the United States, and the United Kingdom between May 18 and 26. Each country had approximately 1,000 parents participating in the survey.

Growing Concerns and Specific Effects

The survey found that an overwhelming majority of parents, 91%, express concern about climate change. They identified various specific effects that worry them, including rising temperatures (62%), water shortages (51%), changing sea levels (43%), and severe weather events (43%).

Climate Considerations in Career Choices

Notably, parents also stated that climate change concerns influence their career decisions. The study discovered that 43% of respondents reconsidered working for a company based on the company’s commitment to environmental and social issues.

Consumer Preferences and Sustainable Practices

Moreover, a company’s demonstrated actions in addressing climate change impact consumer preferences. Around 64% of parents surveyed stated a preference for products that are sustainably sourced. Furthermore, 60% of parents emphasized that a company’s sustainability practices significantly influence their purchasing decisions.
