In response to the growing need to better support its vulnerable residents, the London Borough of Barnet initiated a research partnership with MEL Research and a third party. The objective was to gain a comprehensive understanding of the current support mechanisms available to vulnerable residents and to identify ways to enhance their financial stability and overall well-being.
Research Approach
The research primarily adopted a qualitative approach, involving semi-structured interviews with Barnet residents experiencing problematic debt and known to the council. The insights from these interviews, coupled with supplementary data analysis, were subsequently presented to a co-design group comprising service leads from Barnet Council and an external support agency. The co-design workshop aimed to synthesise the findings and formulate recommendations for service improvements to better assist vulnerable residents.
