Public Attitudes Polling

Public Attitudes Polling

At M·E·L Research, we specialise in large scale national polling to help policymakers and organisation leaders make informed decisions. Our accurate, reliable, and unbiased insights help to explore public attitudes on a range of social issues.

Our team provides:

  • Expertise in question design – Our team of experienced analysts ensures precise, actionable insight whatever the subject matter.
  • Robust methodologies – We use cutting-edge polling techniques, including online, phone, and in-person surveys.
  • Comprehensive Coverage – Through the careful use of online panels that meet our rigorous quality standards we can reach diverse demographics across the UK for truly representative insights.

Our experience

Our public attitude polling delivery track record includes multiple examples of where we have delivered nationally representative polls, in some cases working collaboratively with clients over long periods.

M·E·L Research worked in partnership with Hopkins Van Mil (HVM), to explore public attitudes to assisted dying in England on behalf of the Nuffield Council on Bioethics. Our role was to design, deliver and interpret two nationally representative surveys (2000 interviews in each) either side of a citizens’ jury. Our findings were published in full in and are available here.

In our work with the Legal Services Consumer Panel we have delivered a large-scale annual tracking survey (3500 interviews with a nationally representative sample of those using legal services) looking at how legal service users choose and use legal services, supported by qualitative research among specific groups – e.g. with ethnic minority groups and with digitally excluded service users.

In other projects, we have delivered nationally representative samples to support academia in their research activities. For example, on behalf of Public Health Wales/University of Bangor we delivered 2000 interviews among residents of Wales via a mix of online and telephone interviews to explore the link between housing warmth and health concerns in the context of the cost of living crisis.

Our delivery

Capturing public opinion via online panels requires rigorous quality checking processes. M·E·L Research have developed suite of checks to allow the identification of surveys that do not meet our strict quality standards. We understand that our work on social issues must withstand the highest levels of scrutiny.

Our polling outputs can range from data tables and raw data through to comprehensive analysis and reporting. The reporting solutions we provide to decision makers are highly visual with a clear narrative. We don’t just describe the findings we interpret them.  Our analysis and reporting of residents’ surveys includes use of:

  • Multivariate statistical analysis e.g. key driver analysis.
  • Significance testing to identify variations in opinion between different communities
  • Integrating secondary data to add depth to our insight.
