Project success with Brook

Brook has been at the forefront of providing wellbeing and sexual health support to young people for over 50 years.

With period poverty being a topical issue of growing importance, Brook has commissioned M·E·L Research to carry out an evaluation of the Let’s Talk. Period (LTP) project.

Funded by the Tampon Tax Fund (administered by the Department for Culture, Media and Sport) LTP’s goal is to improve, in a sustainable way, the lives of disadvantaged young women and girls affected by period poverty. LTP aims to achieve its goal through a combination of direct interventions to positively impact on the lives of young women and girls, sharing learning, and relationship building with period product manufacturers.

Working alongside Brook, we will be providing an evaluation of the LTP project to inform learning about this type of intervention and to help Brook influence the wider policy landscape around period poverty.

Our four evaluation objectives are to:

  1. Assess what difference has been made to project beneficiaries
  2. Identify the necessary and / or sufficient factors for LTP’s interventions to produce the outcomes observed; to what extent would we expect these types of interventions to make a difference elsewhere, or in the future?
  3. Inform decision-making on policy directions, programme design and implementation
  4. Demonstrate transparency, quality and accountability towards beneficiaries and stakeholders.

Our evaluation will adopt a mixed-methods approach incorporating existing project data and supplementing this with primary evidence from a variety of audiences including direct users of LTP, operational staff, partners and strategic stakeholders.

Adopting a test and learn approach, we will be a critical friend to LTP as it develops, with our evaluation findings informing learning over time.

We look forward to sharing the findings of our evaluation with you in Spring 2020.
